Manchester United Football Club safely progressed into the Carabao Cup fourth round on Wednesday night. Jose Mourinho simply had to be thrilled with the display from his players, who blitzed Burton Albion by four goals to one at the Theatre of Dreams.
It was the first time of the season that we got to see both Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford start together, and boy they didn’t disappoint. Rashford scored a first-half brace before Martial finally got a deserved goal in the second half.
Now, though, we want to delve deeper into Martial’s performance as a whole. According to Statman Dave, the French winger’s stats were insanely good. He scored one, picked up an assist, made nine dribbles (with a 100% completion rate) and created opportunities; a complete performance.
Martial's game by numbers vs. Burton:
2 chances created
100% dribbles completed

On another day, he probably could have had a couple more goals and assists, too. He was a constant thorn in the opponents side for 90 minutes, and some of the skills and tricks that were on display were out of this world.
He’s a player that excites, and when he’s on form, there is absolutely no stopping him. Alright, Burton aren’t the highest level of opposition he’ll come up against, but he absolutely tore them to bits.
It was the type of performance that Jose Mourinho will take note of. I felt that the former AS Monaco man was sending out a message to his manager, as the battle between Martial and Rashford for that left-wing spot continues.
