Manchester United made it the second draw on the bounce yesterday evening, as Jose Mourinho’s men played out an energetic 0-0 draw away at Liverpool. A point was a fair result, but there was one player on the field who definitely stood out from the bunch and earned the plaudits.
The man in question is the smiling Spaniard, Ander Herrera. The 27-year-old from Bilbao put in a performance to be proud of as he dragged his teammates through the match almost single-handedly at times.
Let’s delve into the stats that back this point up, and the one that really sticks out is the fact that he made a huge eleven interceptions to stop Liverpool passing through us.
On top of that, he also won 100% of his four aerial battles which was a factor in the lads going back to Manchester with a well-deserved draw. He also made seven tackles in the game, proving that he doesn’t mind getting stuck in.
Herrera wasn’t afraid to try and change the game in an attacking sense either, completing 100% of his attempted take-ons (five), and making 40 of his 53 passes.
It really does make you wonder as to how this man wasn’t allowed a run in the side last season, because he is showing exactly what he is capable of. Going forward, he is a real positive for Jose Mourinho, and it certainly bodes well for Ander Herrera.
