Manchester United and Jose Mourinho will be locking horns with an old enemy this weekend. City and their new boss Pep Guardiola head to Old Trafford for the most eagerly anticipated derby in recent years – and what an absolutely fantastic game we have in prospect.
Date: Saturday 10th September.
Kick-off time: 12:30 BST.
Referee: Mark Clattenburg.
The Mourinho and Guardiola rivalry came to the fore out in Spain. That was a battle that the City boss came out on top of more often than not, but he’s new to the English game whereas Mourinho has several years experience here. This should give United the tactical edge.
On top of that, the game is at Old Trafford. Mourinho wants to make our home ground a fortress again, and if we can get a win here, it’d send out a real message to the rest of the title contenders.
Manchester United have a few injury concerns ahead of this one. Although one man who has come through the international break having shaken off an injury is Marouane Fellaini, who is in line to start. There are doubts about Antonio Valencia and Luke Shaw, whereas Henrikh Mkhitaryan has a thigh issue.
City have their own worries. Sergio Aguero is missing due to a ban, which is obviously a huge blow meaning we could see a tactical switch from Guardiola. The manager could also welcome Ilkay Gundogan and Leroy Sane to the starting XI.
Last Meeting: Manchester City 0-1 Manchester United.
Last time around, United absolutely played City off the park at the Etihad Stadium. Marcus Rashford sent Martin Demichelis into an early retirement as he scored the only goal in stunning fashion.
Score Prediction: Manchester United 2-1 Manchester City.
I’ve definitely gone with my heart on this one, but I just cannot see anything other than a Manchester United win. Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Anthony Martial to find the back of the net.
