2016/17 Player Ratings: Manchester United 1-1 Arsenal – Mata shines

David de Gea – Literally had nothing to do throughout the game, which makes the result all the tougher to take. 6/10

Antonio Valencia – Brilliant to have him back, and my he was impressive. Defensively he was great, and going forward he was a real thorn in their side. 8/10

Phil Jones – Played very well – until the crucial moment when Olivier Giroud found the back of the net where his marking was wayward. Shame. 5/10

Marcos Rojo – Wasn’t too bad. Stayed aggressive and did the dirty work well. Had Sanchez in his back pocket. 6/10

Matteo Darmian – An accident waiting to happen, and had to be careful after picking up an early booking. 4/10

Michael Carrick – What a boss. United just play a whole lot better with him in the team. He just seems to make us tick. 7/10

Ander Herrera – Has to be the first name on the team sheet at present. His energy, drive and desire is just a joy to watch. 8/10

Paul Pogba – Improving all the time, and shown glimpses of his brilliance again today. 6/10

Juan Mata – He continued a brilliant start to the season with a superb finish. Shame he was subbed off. 8/10

Anthony Martial – Not great, but he definitely needs a run of games to get back to his best. 4/10

Marcus Rashford – The opposite of Martial. You feel like he needs a rest because he just wasn’t at it today. 4/10

Wayne Rooney – Actually did quite well when he came on.

Daley Blind – Played some nice passes.

Morgan Schneiderlin – Not enough time to mark.
