2016/17 Player Ratings: Manchester United 2-0 Southampton FC

David de Gea – He simply had no saves to make whatsoever, a quiet night for our Spaniard. 6/10

Antonio Valencia – Bombed down the right-hand side all game and defended diligently. 7/10

Eric Bailly – Once again he looked so calm and composed on the ball, and he loves a hard challenge. 7/10

Daley Blind – What an absolute baller. His tactical awareness more than makes up for the lack of height. He was outstanding. 8/10

Luke Shaw – Top performance. He ran the show from left-back, beat his man more often than not and won a penalty. 7/10

Marouane Fellaini – Brilliant. Controlled the game and protected the back four. 7/10

Paul Pogba – Wow. It’s been a while since we’ve had a midfielder who loves to go past his marker, and it was refreshing to see. The complete performance. 8/10

Juan Mata – Played some nice passes and beat his man fairly often. One of his better days. 7/10

Wayne Rooney – Looked sluggish at times, but grew as the game went on. Played a killer ball for Ibrahimovic’s opener. 6/10

Anthony Martial – Back to his best. His running scared the Southampton defence. Unlucky not to get a goal. 7/10

Zlatan Ibrahimovic – Stunning. What an amazing header to give United the lead, and a coolly slotted home penalty to seal his brace. 9/10

Henrikh Mkhitaryan – Looked a real threat. He’s so agile and full of potential. It cannot be long until he starts.

Ander Herrera – Shown some nice touches.

Chris Smalling – Brilliant to see him back in action.
