26-Year-old goalkeeper snubs chance to potentially replace David de Gea at Man United: report

For years, David de Gea has constantly been linked with a Manchester United exit. We’ve done well to keep ahold of the world-class shot-stopper for so long, but with a winding down contract, it was inevitable that these transfer rumours would start up again.

Now, De Gea has been linked with another move to Real Madrid. That’s according to The Sun, who say that United have spoken to current Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois about the possibility of replacing De Gea in some sort of swap deal.

However, they go on to add that the 26-year-old Belgian has rejected that chance as he’d prefer to remain in the Spanish capital. If a stay in Madrid isn’t possible, his next preferred destination would be Paris Saint-Germain.

Replacing De Gea is an impossible task. There is nobody in the world like him, and whoever we sign, it’d be a backwards step. Courtois would be high on my list of potentials, though. He’s a couple of years younger than De Gea, but what’s most important is the fact that he has Premier League experience already under his belt.

Perhaps the only concerning thing is the fact that he has struggled at times this season – which is why Madrid could well be on the hunt for a replacement. Maybe Courtois just needs a change in scenery to get back to his best – and we could do a awful lot worse than acquiring him should De Gea leave.
