Manchester United fans have been calling for Wayne Rooney’s head quite a lot recently, due to plenty of sub-par performances over the last twelve months. The club captain hasn’t had the best of starts to this season either, and now some fans could be about to get their wish.
The 30-year-old is being targeted by MLS side Portland Timbers, who’d be interested in taking Rooney at the end of his current Manchester United contract if the club choose not to renew his deal.
Big money would obviously be on the table for Rooney in terms of player wages, but you’d imagine the transfer fee won’t be all that steep – particularly if he leaves when his contract is coming to an end.
The big pull for the MLS is that Wayne Rooney is only thirty and could offer plenty of seasons to help America grow their brand of soccer – similarly to have David Beckham did it when he moved to the LA Galaxy.
I’m sure United fans wouldn’t be all that bothered if Rooney left, especially if he doesn’t step up his game several levels as this current Premier League campaign progresses.
