4-2-3-1: Man United’s likely XI vs SL Benfica – Victor Lindelof starts

Manchester United Football Club has made an impressive start upon their return to the Champions League. Jose Mourinho’s men have won two games from two, sitting pretty at the top of their group.

Now, they head to Portugal to take on SL Benfica; probably their toughest assignment on paper. A positive result here, though, could all-but seal qualification through to the knockout stages.

Ahead of the game, we’ve drawn up the likely starting line-up that we’ll see against the Primeira Liga giants.

Man United’s likely XI vs SL Benfica:

The squad is still looking pretty thin due to injuries, but this XI should have more than enough to come away with at least a point.

In goal, David de Gea will continue. He’ll have Chris Smalling and Victor Lindelof in front of him, allowing Phil Jones to get himself fully fit for Huddersfield away at the weekend. Daley Blind should start, with Ashley Young playing on the right-hand side.

Our midfield injury issues look like continuing, so Ander Herrera will play, with Nemanja Matic starting against his former side. Juan Mata didn’t take to the field at all against Liverpool, so undoubtedly, we’ll see him involved.

Jesse Lingard has looked good during his little substitute cameos recently, he deserves a start. Marcus Rashford will come back into the team after a disappointing display from Anthony Martial. Romelu Lukaku will continue to lead the line.
