Manchester United’s pre-season tour comes to an end in Dublin, Ireland. Undoubtedly the Aviva Stadium will be jam-packed with Red Devils fans, with Jose Mourinho putting his players through their paces in one final friendly fixture before the serious stuff starts.
So far, our pre-season games have been pretty solid. This is the last opportunity for the manager to hand out some last-minute appearances to the guys who still need to build up their fitness – and I expect the boss to name a strong starting XI, including a certain new signing…
Check out Manchester United’s likely XI vs Sampdoria
David de Gea didn’t travel to Norway, so the Spaniard will likely play here. Antonio Valencia will get the nod at right-back with Matteo Darmian holding down the fort in the left-back slot. Victor Lindelof and Chris Smalling will play as the central defenders, as the pair look to continue to build their on-field relationship.
Then, just in front of them, Nemanja Matic will be sitting in the defensive-midfield role. Ander Herrera has to play as he’s missed the last couple of games through injury. Paul Pogba makes up the midfield trio that looks so solid all of the sudden.
Our front three will be spearheaded by new signing Romelu Lukaku, who has made a great start to life as a Red Devil – scoring three goals so far. To his left, he’ll have the pace and intelligence of Jesse Lingard, and on the right-flank, Henrikh Mkhitaryan’s directness, speed, and sheer skill will be on display.
