Manchester United’s biggest game of the season is on the horizon. The Red Devils lead their Europa League semi-final 1-0 from the first leg, with the second leg taking place at Old Trafford this Thursday. The prize? A place in the final, and a shot at Champions League qualification.
Ahead of the game, we’ve taken a look at the likely starting line-up for the game, and you have to say that on paper, it looks strong.
In goal, Sergio Romero will return and rightly so. He has been an excellent goalkeeper for us in this competition this season, and he more than deserves the start.
Onto the back four, and both Antonio Valencia and Eric Bailly will return after being rested at the weekend. Their time off will do them the world of good, and they’ll be fully fit for this one. Phil Jones had a slightly better afternoon against Arsenal than Chris Smalling did, that’s why I’ve given him the nod here. Matteo Darmian makes up the back four.
A trio in midfield would make the most sense, to pack that area of the field and not allow any gaps. Marouane Fellaini will be at the base, and he’ll have the energy and creativity of Ander Herrera and Paul Pogba in front of him.
Anthony Martial will play as the left-winger after another poor display from Henrikh Mkhitaryan over the weekend, and both Jesse Lingard and Marcus Rashford will start.
