4-3-3: Manchester United’s strongest line-up when everyone is fit

Manchester United’s form recently has been patchy to say the least. Jose Mourinho’s men can go from looking menacing every time they go forward, to looking toothless in the blink of an eye.

A large section of Red Devils fans are putting that down to the formation. That got us here at Old Trafford Faithful thinking, just what is Manchester United’s best starting XI when everyone is fit? Well, here you are…

Check out our starting XI here:

It should come as no real surprise that we’re opting for the 4-3-3 that has served Mourinho so well in the past, and man-for-man, our starting XI should go toe-to-toe with the best teams in European football.

Obviously, the best goalkeeper in the world, David de Gea starts in between the sticks, with a defensive pairing of Marcos Rojo and Eric Bailly just ahead of him. Sure, they’re no Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic, but they’re a damn sight better than Chris Smalling and Phil Jones. With that said, I fully expect the club to invest in another top-quality centre-half in the summer.

Then we have the full-backs. Antonio Valencia has been sensational this term, really making that right-back position his own. Choosing the left-sided defender was much tougher but I’ve gone for Luke Shaw over Ashley Young, but honestly, it’s a toss-up.

The midfield three is pretty self-explanatory. Nemanja Matic will sit at the base, breaking up play and generally doing what he does best. Paul Pogba will be deployed in a more offensive role and his place in the team is a given. The third midfielder is the interesting one. Right now, I’d opt for Ander Herrera, but like the centre-back situation, don’t be surprised to see another midfielder added in the summer.

As for the front three, it’s the perfect blend of pace, power and sheer attacking genius. Romelu Lukaku will bludgeon his way through defenders, while holding up play brilliantly and scoring goals for fun. Anthony Martial is lightning quick with a real eye for finding the back of the net. Then you have Alexis Sanchez who’s still adjusting to life at Old Trafford, but we all know his capabilities. He’s simply immense.
