Manchester United’s biggest game of the season is now here. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men find themselves 1-0 down from the first leg with much work to do.
FC Barcelona, fronted by Lionel Messi, will be well-rested after Ernesto Valverde chose to give practically their whole starting XI rest over the weekend. For United, some changes were made but not to that extent.
Predicting Solskjaer’s XI for this one is straightforward in some areas of the field but less clear-cut in others. With that in mind, let’s delve right into the United predicted starting line-up.
In goal, David de Gea will start. You get the feeling that he’s going to have the game of his life for United to even have a chance. In front of him, Chris Smalling will start alongside a Victor Lindelof who was rested against West Ham. Ashley Young will be feeling fresh after his suspension, he’ll replace Luke Shaw at left-back who himself is banned. Diogo Dalot makes up the back four.
Scott McTominay was United’s top performer last Wednesday. We’ll need an even better outing from him this time around. Fred has grown recently so he’ll start, while Paul Pogba will have to improve upon his recent performances.
It’s tough to leave out Romelu Lukaku but this game requires pace on the counter. Marcus Rashford will lead the line, with Jesse Lingard and Anthony Martial playing either side of him.
