Well folks, we’re almost there. FA Cup day is just on the horizon, with Manchester United taking on Chelsea in the Wembley showpiece.
Jose Mourinho’s men have been the better team this term, but anything can happen in a one-off match; United will have to be at their brilliant best.
After meticulous planning and careful consideration, we’ve finally come up with our predicted XI for the clash. For the most part, it’s pretty much as you’d expect, but there is a surprise or two…
Predicted Man United FA Cup final XI vs Chelsea:
The easiest pick to make was David de Gea. The best goalkeeper in the world was always going to start in between the sticks, and deservedly so.
Phil Jones is the surprise pick, I think. The Englishman seems to have returned to form and fitness at just the right moment, and I believe he’s won the race to partner Chris Smalling at the heart of the back four. Antonio Valencia and Ashley Young pretty much pick themselves, as they have done all season.
For the season’s majority, United played a two-man midfield. However, in the bigger games we’ve seen a three-man midfield deployed, and it comes as no surprise that we play our best football in the 4-3-3. Nemanja Matic will sit at the base, cleaning up and doing the dirty work. Ander Herrera will bring the much-needed energy, whereas it’s up to Paul Pogba to create and aid the front three.
Romelu Lukaku should be fit to return, no doubt Mourinho will give us an update later. Jesse Lingard’s work-rate will mean he’ll get the nod on the right-wing, with Alexis Sanchez completing the XI.
