Manchester United Football Club have started the league in lethargic fashion. Jose Mourinho’s men are already eight points off the pace. We’re just six games in.
The Red Devils get a welcome break as attentions turn to the Carabao Cup for the first time this season. Honestly, I don’t think it’s too early to suggest that this could well be our best chance at scooping silverware during 2018/19…
Anyway, with that in mind we’ve decided to try and decipher Mourinho’s thoughts and work out what starting XI we’ll go with against Derby County; in what will be an intriguing match against arguably the self-proclaimed Special One’s greatest ever player.
Diogo Dalot was outstanding against Young Boys. This game will be much tougher for the man from Portugal, though. Opposite him is Ashley Young, who is now trying to wrestle his regular starting berth away from the in-form Luke Shaw. Eric Bailly and Phil Jones will get their chance.
Scott McTominay has found game time hard to come by this term, probably due to the upturn in form from Marouane Fellaini coupled with the signing of Fred and the emergence of Andreas Pereira. The duo from Brazil will start alongside the Scot.
Anthony Martial as a striker? With Marcus Rashford suspended and Romelu Lukaku likely to be rested, that’s exactly what could happen on Tuesday evening. Juan Mata will start, with Alexis Sanchez making up the XI.
