4 key passes, 94% pass accuracy, 56 touches: Midfield maestro back to his best

Manchester United put in a much better all-round performance against Chelsea, with plenty of chances created and the side looking much more threatening going forward. That was largely down to Juan Mata, who looked superb in his favoured #10 role this afternoon.

So lets take a closer look at his stats. The clever Spaniard finished the game with 48 passes completed, at a 94% pass accuracy – the majority of which were forward and getting United moving up the field.

He had a total of 56 touches, and although he didn’t grab an assist, he did play four key passes which could have led to goals if the forwards managed to convert their chances.

It was superb to see him flourish in behind the striker. That is without doubt his most effective position, despite being played on the wings for large portions of his time at Old Trafford. Hopefully he can kick on from here and nail down that position.
