5-3-2: Manchester United’s best XI with everyone fit for 2018/19 season

Manchester United are just days away from kicking off their Premier League season. Jose Mourinho’s men are ready to play, and kicking things off with three points against Leicester City is an absolute necessity.

With that in mind, we’ve decided to take a look at what we think is our best starting line-up with the current crop of players at the self-proclaimed Special One’s disposal. Bear in mind, that this is subject to change due to both incoming and outgoing transfers, so let’s get right into it…

Manchester United’s best XI with everyone fit for 2018/19 season:

The first thing to note is the formation change. We’ve seen the 5-3-2 utilised in pre-season, and it’s when we’ve played some of our best football under our Portuguese manager.

Now down to personnel, it all starts with a good goalkeeper. David de Gea’s the best in the business. That’s no longer up for debate, he’d start for any club in world football.

Onto the back three, we have Eric Bailly at the heart. It’s down to him to get over these little injuries that are hampering him at the moment, and I’m backing him to do exactly that. Victor Lindelof had a super World Cup, I’m expecting him to bring that form back to Old Trafford with him. Chris Smalling makes up the back three.

In terms of wing-backs, Luke Shaw had a solid pre-season and he deserves his chance to make that position in the team his own. Opposite him, Antonio Valencia is by far and away our best option. Although personally, I’d like to see new full-backs signed, we’ll have to work with what we’ve got.

Nemanja Matic will sit at the base of the midfield. I’d argue he’s United’s best signing under Mourinho. Paul Pogba’s future is somewhat up in the air following an offer from FC Barcelona, but he plays, as does new-boy Fred, who’ll have a point to prove.

Two strikers with different styles could work wonders. Alexis Sanchez has been superb over the last month. He’ll start. Romelu Lukaku, our best outfield player from last season, makes up the XI.
