Alan Shearer explains why Manchester United fans should be worried this season

Manchester United got their Premier League campaign off to a winning start against Leicester City. Jose Mourinho’s men won 2-1, with the winning goal coming courtesy of Luke Shaw.

It was a much-needed three points, but the performance levels simply have to improve as we progress through the season. However, after a torrid summer, Alan Shearer reckons United fans have every reason to be worried going into the campaign; particularly as City won the league at a canter last term.

Shearer highlights the poor form from Alexis Sanchez, while also assessing the fact that the self-proclaimed Special One could well have a mutiny on his hands if he isn’t careful.

“Jose has got to get that United squad to a position where they are starting to challenge City,” he told The Sun.

“Last season City had effectively won the title by January and that can’t be allowed to happen again this year if you are a United fan, player or manager.

“What you have to look at is that Mourinho lost the power battle with the players in the dressing room at both Real Madrid and Chelsea.

“We haven’t really seen Sanchez kick a ball for United since he arrived in January.

“He’s shown nowhere near the ability we know he has.

What’s disappointing from Sanchez’s standpoint is the fact that he had an excellent pre-season playing as a striker. We all thought he’d come in and start the campaign through the middle, but for whatever reason, the manager stuck him out on the left-wing again, where he was largely ineffective.

I just don’t see the logic behind constantly chopping and changing his position, that’s good for nobody.

Then, you have Paul Pogba’s latest comments despite being captain. There are worrying for everyone. We all know how good the Frenchman is, and we all desperately want him to stay. If he leaves, that’d be a majorly big hole right at the heart of our team. We badly need him to stick around in the long-term.
