Manchester United’s squad have looked much more confident since Jose Mourinho’s arrival at Old Trafford, particularly in the defensive third of the pitch. Perhaps one of the biggest beneficiaries of Jose’s arrival is Antonio Valencia, who has looked like a man possessed.
Now his teammate Ander Herrera has really enforced the belief that Valencia is having a stunning season, by labelling him ‘the best right-back in the world’ at this point in time. Honestly, you have to agree with Ander too…
“I know him and have always liked the way he plays,” Herrera began. “I know he’s not a normal right-back because he used to play as a winger, but I think that, right now, he is the best right-back in the world, maybe with Dani Alves, because I like Dani Alves a lot. I think Antonio is one of the best right-backs in the world.”
There is no doubting the stunning start to the season Antonio Valencia has made. Jose Mourinho seems to have lifted his confidence levels immensely, and Valencia has been brilliant in both attacking and defensive sides of the ball so far.
It shows just how capable the Ecuadorian is on his day, and if he keeps this form up for the duration of the season, both Matteo Darmian and Timothy Fosu-Mensah will really struggle to force their way into the team.
