Ander Herrera explains what Man United must do to keep hold of David de Gea

Manchester United and David de Gea hasn’t always been a match made in heaven. We forget that, when the Spaniard first broke through into the first-team he struggled for a couple of years. However, Sir Alex Ferguson kept the faith in him and look at him now.

The 26-year-old is without a doubt the best in the business at what he does – and nobody can take that away from him. This is a man who makes unbelievable save after unbelievable save. Us Manchester United fans are lucky to have him – and we’ll continue to be exactly that for as long as he remains a Red Devil.

One thing that will never go away is the Real Madrid rumours. That’s just the nature of the sport. Now, De Gea’s pal Ander Herrera has spoken out on the situation – and he’s explained that the only way he’ll stay here is by continually winning titles.

‘I can see him staying here for more years, but we need to win titles to keep him with us. That is what we did last season,’ Herrea is quoted as saying by ESPN, as per The Metro.

‘David is really happy at the moment because we are fighting for everything. We won three titles last season, and the FA Cup the year before, and that is what he wants.’

‘Real Madrid are going to talk about it every summer because he is the best keeper in the world. But we don’t think we are far from Real Madrid — we won three titles last season, the only English team to do it.’

‘We are going to enjoy having him here and try to keep him at the club for as long as possible.’

Winning trophies will always keep players happy. But, we’ve been winning silverware that isn’t as highly thought of as say, a Premier League title. Sooner or later, a top-flight title or a Champions League winners medal is what De Gea will want.

Manchester United have a great chance at Premier League glory this season, although they’ll be some stiff competition from the likes of Manchester City and Chelsea. Herrera gets it spot on. We have to enjoy De Gea while we have him. Goalkeepers are often taken for granted, but our fans absolutely adore ‘Big Dave’ and they’ll continue to do so even if he inevitably makes the move back to Spain.
