Manchester United Football Club have had a tough week or so, and they haven’t won in their last three fixtures; including two draws and a loss. However, tonight, they can go a long way to avenging those results by securing a place in the quarter-final of the Europa League.
Their two-legged tie against FC Rostov is very finely balanced at 1-1, with Jose Mourinho’s men finding a goal through Henrikh Mkhitaryan before the hosts equalised.
With the away goal, and obviously home field advantage this evening, Manchester United have to be favourites. Now, Ander Herrera has been speaking to the media about why he believes this match to be the most important one of our season so far.
“We must be realistic. In the Premier League, we are not in the top four places that qualify for the Champions League.”
“Therefore, this competition is key because it may be our best chance of playing in the Champions League next season.”
“It is in the DNA of the club and this team to be winners,” he added.
“We are doing things right and already have a title this season.
“It has to be the objective because it is what this great club should be doing.”
At the end of the day, every professional is in the game to win trophies. We’re supremely fortunate here at Manchester United, as it feels like more often than not we’re the holders of something.
Ander Herrera gets it absolutely spot on here. Manchester United’s best bet at securing a place in the Champions League for next season is by winning the Europa League. Tonight presents an opportunity to get down to the last eight, where things will certainly heat up.
As for the Spaniard himself, he has to start in my opinion, and he owes us a performance. He was sent off at Stamford Bridge, and let’s hope tonight he can make amends for that by putting in an excellent performance against a fiesty Russian side.
