Against Everton, Manchester United returned to winning ways in convincing fashion. Jose Mourinho’s team have proven time and time again that they are more than capable when it comes to competing with the best.
On the day, the goals came from Anthony Martial and Jesse Lingard, with the latter, in particular, impressing us all of late.
The Englishman has comfortably been our best player over the last month, and it’s brilliant watching a homegrown lad playing at the highest level, while enjoying himself at the same time.
Lingard, 24, has earned praise aplenty, including from his Manchester United teammate Ander Herrera, who puts it down to his amazing movement, as well as the insane speed that he possesses.
“Fantastic. When you are like that he has to keep trying [to] shoot, shoot, shoot!” Herrera joked with reporters, including the Daily Mirror.
“I am not in that minute! I shoot like three times today and didn’t score but I will keep looking for that moment and Jesse has that now.
“He has to keep trying to shoot but the movement he does with us in the team is also amazing. He is very quick at the moment as well. No one can touch him so we are happy for him.”
I’m just delighted for Lingard. For at least two years, he’s had to deal with stick from his own fans, but slowly but surely he’s proving each and every one of his doubters wrong. This current spell is comfortably his best period as a professional footballer, and huge credit has to go to Mourinho for developing and harnessing his obvious talent.
It says all you need to know that his teammates cannot get near him in training. I’d go as far as saying that Lingard is our best worker off the ball, and the space he creates for others often goes unnoticed at times. He’s an excellent asset to have and it’s great watching him improve and grow with each passing week.
