Ander Herrera is everybody’s favourite Basque. The loveable midfielder has seen a drastic reduction in playing time so far this season, but he’s unconcerned by that, reports the Manchester Evening News.
This is a player that Jose Mourinho trusts wholeheartedly, and last year he played a huge part in any success that we had. But, it’s nice to see that he is biding his time to get his opportunity because he knows just how hard it is to play for this great football club every single week.
Whilst being asked about his reduction in minutes, Herrera responded:
“I am always ready to play,” he said, as per the MEN. “I always say the same. I am a team player and when the manager needs me I will be there and that’s it. In football, there are no surprises.”
This is the perfect attitude to have, and it just further endears him to the Old Trafford faithful. We love these kind of players who give absolutely everything for the cause – but also understand that sometimes, particular matches just don’t suit their style of play; that’s football.
With our participation in the Champions League, as well as other domestic cup competitions, modern day football is more of a squad game now than it ever was. Herrera knows that an opportunity will be sent his way, and when that chance arrives, he has to grasp it with both hands and make himself undroppable – that’s what the sport is all about, and I have full confidence in his ability to do exactly that.
