Manchester United’s pre-season tour officially kicks off this weekend with a game against the LA Galaxy. Jose Mourinho’s travelling squad is a great blend of youth and experience, and amongst the players is Andreas Pereira.
The 21-year-old spent last season out on loan with Granada in La Liga. During his time in Spain, he thoroughly impressed and became an integral part of the setup out there.
Now, he has been speaking to United’s website, and he was asked about just how good it feels to be back. During the interview, he explains how happy he is to have returned, and he makes his intentions clear.
“Yeah, I am very happy that I am back, and I can be part of this team. I will try to do my best to stay here, get an important role for the season, to help my team-mates and to impress the manager.” Pereira told ManUtd.com in an official club interview.
I just love the fact that he says he ‘can’ become a part of this team rather than ‘hope’. It’s a real strong statement to the manager, and the little Brazilian certainly feels he is good enough to play a regular part.
Having watched a fair bit of him for the reserves, as well as the handful of first-team appearances at Old Trafford before he was loaned out – I’ve formed the opinion that Pereira is more than capable.
He’s got two great feet, he’s comfortable in possession and can play all across the front three. He can be pretty useful from a dead-ball situation too, as Ipswich Town found out…
He’ll definitely get his chance at some point on tour, and we do have seven games for him to stake his claim. Hopefully, he takes his opportunity and the gaffer gives him a place within the first-team squad during the 2017/18 campaign.
