Andreas Pereira is set to be a key member of Manchester United’s first-team squad during the 2018/19 campaign.
That’s according to the Daily Mirror, who adds that the 22-year-old has earned Jose Mourinho’s trust while on pre-season tour – playing more minutes than any other squad member during the five-game stint.
Now, Pereira has forced his way into United’s starting line-up for their Premier League opener against Leicester City; something that the Brazil-born-Belgian will be extremely excited for.
After two seasons out on loan, this opportunity has been years in the making. This was his third pre-season tour under Mourinho. He’s impressed on every single one. Now, the lack of signings coupled with Pereira showing off his insane capabilities has twisted the manager’s arm.
Now it’s trying to work out what position he’ll start in. Obviously he’s been playing as the #6 during the tour, a position which he now believes is his best, but he’s still more than capable of playing further forward.
Honestly, I’m just thrilled he’s going to get his chance. Now it’s solely down to the young man to grasp the opportunity and prove to the world that he deserves to be playing for Manchester United.
Nobody is expecting Andreas Pereira to start every week for us, but as a squad player, he could be useful. Had my doubts before this tour, but he's proving his worth right now. #mufc
