Manchester United spent big on Angel di Maria in the summer, and to many it was a mystery as to why Real Madrid were prepared to let such a key figure leave the club. The 26-year old Argentinian was named in the FIF Pro World XI, alongside some greats including Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.
Di Maria had a simply stunning year for both club(s) and country, including a Man of the Match performance in the Champions League final, and countless assists and goals – particularly for Real Madrid.
The midfielder was more than worthy of his inclusion in the team, and its great to see his hard work and dedication pay off with these excellent performances over the past year. Hopefully he can kick on and put in similar performances for United for the next few seasons.
Sadly, Robin van Persie came up short in the running for the Puskas Goal of the Year, but there was better news as Cristiano Ronaldo won his second Ballon D’or in a row, and the third in his career.
