Perhaps the best thing that Louis van Gaal ever did as Manchester United manager was sanctioning a move for Anthony Martial. At the time, the AS Monaco man wasn’t really known across the footballing globe, but after a stunning debut season, that changed.
Under Jose Mourinho, the insanely talented Frenchman struggled somewhat as he drifted in and out of the manager’s plans. That led to rumours surfacing that Martial wanted to leave Old Trafford – although they didn’t last long.
That’s because the 21-year-old took to social media to seemingly deny all those rumours with one simple but effective tweet.
Les rumeurs sont fausses 🔴
— Anthony Martial (@AnthonyMartial) June 28, 2017
In French, he tweeted ‘the rumours are false’ along with a red circle (probably signalling his desire to remain at Manchester United).
Ah, I love this man. The article had been live for less than 24 hours before our striker came out and denied them immediately, and he deserves plenty of credit for that.
Now it’s up to him to force his way into Jose Mourinho’s plans on a more regular basis. He has bags of ability, and for me, he’s the best left-winger we have so if he can find some form – he should be capable of changing the gaffer’s mind.
