Manchester United kicked off their 2017/18 Premier League campaign in stunning style. Jose Mourinho’s men stuck four past a hapless West Ham United team, with the Red Devils really throwing a marker down to the rest of the title challengers.
One man who played a big hand in the result, despite only playing ten minutes, was Anthony Martial. The Frenchman scored one and picked up an assist in the 4-0 rout – and he looked extremely determined to earn a starting job.
Despite that performance, rumours about a potential exit from Old Trafford for the 21-year-old have been in the media. For me, I always thought that there was no way Mourinho would be naive enough to let Martial leave – and that may have just been confirmed by a family member.
Martial’s cousin, Jema, apparently posted a photo on her social media page below, stating the following, before it was quickly deleted.
“For Manchester United, Anthony’s departure is not a possibility, even on loan. They rely on him.” Martial’s cousin Jema is quoted as saying by the Manchester Evening News.
This is just great news. Martial had a poor campaign last term, but you get the impression that he wants to turn that around this year. He’s made a great start, but earning the trust of Mourinho is not going to be easy.
He has the capabilities to start as our left-winger every single week, but he has to go into every single game with the attitude that he displayed against West Ham United. Martial simply cannot afford to let his head drop, because that was his downfall last year.
