Manchester United head to The Etihad Stadium tomorrow, in the hope of continuing their good Premier League form. The game itself will obviously be a tight-knit affair, but it’s a match that we go into with the confidence flowing and we have every chance of getting a positive result.
A man who has played in his fair share of feisty derby games since arriving at Manchester United is Antonio Valencia. The man from Ecuador loves a battle and more often than not he has come out on the winning side.
Now 31, he is a real senior figure in the Old Trafford dressing room. He’s worked supremely hard to get where he is, and without a doubt, we’re talking about one of the best full-backs in the country right now.
Valencia was asked about the importance of this game, and what a victory would mean to the fans, the Ecuador international responded:
“I’ve lived in the Manchester area for a good few years now, so I know exactly what these games mean to the fans,” Valencia told MUTV.
“The people of Manchester put huge importance on this game. I know they really live the experience, so I’m sure it will be a great atmosphere. “
“We’re excited. We just hope that, on the night, we can perform really well and put in a big performance. I think we’re going into it in good shape, we’ve been working hard and we all feel well prepared.”
This just sums it up perfectly. All week, people will have been focusing solely on this game; both reds and blues. The winner of this fixture could eventually be the one team from Manchester that finishes in the top four, thus claiming a place in the Champions League, so that’s just how vital this match is.
I guess we’re going into the game after a real solid string of results whereas City enters the match after a tough FA Cup semi-final loss in extra-time. Morale will be high and Jose Mourinho will set his players up correctly, so let’s hope for a positive outcome.
