Arsenal are ready to make a shock £13m bid for Manchester United’s young centre-half, Chris Smalling. The 24-year old, who was playing non-league football back in 2008 has arguably been United’s best defensive option this year, as the Daily Star suggest United would be prepared to sell Smalling to the Gunners.
Arsene Wenger’s interest in Smalling has been strong since the England international started his Premier League career back at Fulham, and that has been boosted since he made the move to Manchester. Another key factor in the interest is that he can play right-back very comfortably, and with Bacary Sagna set to leave in the summer, he could become a starting XI regular.
Moyes’ faith in Smalling has dropped since he was pictured on a night out at a fancy dress party wearing a suicide bomber outfit. If we were to let Smalling go it’d be a mistake. We’re already set to lose Ferdinand, Vidic and Evra at the end of the season, so we cannot afford to let any other defensive options go.
