AS Roma prepared improved Chris Smalling offer after career-revival: report

Over the summer, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer started his Manchester United makeover. Players were sold, others were loaned out. Amongst those who fall into the latter is Chris Smalling.

After struggling for form at Old Trafford last term, the Baby Faced Assassin took the decision to let the centre-back head to AS Roma on loan.

Since then, the ex-Fulham defender has been in scintillating form. He’s been at the heart of a sturdy AS Roma defence, while also chipping in with a few goals and assists up the other end too…

Anyway, it seems as though the Serie A outfit aren’t planning on signing Smalling permanently, either…

According to Il Romanista, the European giant are planning an ‘improved offer’ to sign the 30-year-old United star who’s greatly impressing this season.

Honestly, why wouldn’t they? Roma paid a minimal loan fee to get Smalling in for the year and he’s made a fantastic start. No doubt due to his age, he probably wouldn’t cost that much – particularly as United have always been drastic when it comes to selling players in the transfer market.

For me, the main concern is that United will probably allow this deal to happen while sub-par footballers like Phil Jones, Eric Bailly and Marcos Rojo are still picking up their wages here at Old Trafford…
