Suddenly, Manchester United felt like the team we’ve known and loved once again.
The Red Devils blitzed Cardiff City 5-1 on Saturday afternoon, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer rightly receiving all the plaudits.
From the players’ perspective, it just looked like they wanted it. Those group of lads believe in Solskjaer, they want to perform for the Baby Faced Assassin. I guess the most important thing is that they looked like they were enjoying their football once again.
The passing, the one-touch football, the movement, it was just sublime, and finally, the travelling away fans have been rewarded with a display that they can truly be proud of.
Following the match, Ashley Young had praise aplenty for the passionate away supporters, claiming that they’ve always been behind the team even when times are tough.
“The fans have been fantastic all season whether we have won, lost or drawn, they have always been behind us. There are always going to be times when they are not going to be happy when we are not winning, that’s obvious. Today they were brilliant from the warm-ups to when we left the pitch.” Young is quoted as saying by ManUtd.com.
I genuinely believe United have the best fans in the country. Whatever the situation or circumstance, the Old Trafford faithful have always remained right behind their heroes – and it’s nice to see Youngy come out and recognise that.
Obviously, there was always going to be more buzz about the place on Saturday because of the circumstance, but believe me when I tell you that almost every away end is identical to that; both domestically and in Europe.
Having the fans roaring you on must be a source of motivation for the players. When the going gets tough, the supporters will push you on and get that extra 5 or 10% from the lads when they need it most.
Now, it’s time for the home fans to follow suit and help them on their way on Boxing Day when Huddersfield visit Old Trafford.
