Atletico looking to raise Thomas Partey’s release clause amid Man United interest: report

Manchester United Football Club find themselves on the up. However, there is much work still ahead if the Red Devils are going to take that next leap.

Bruno Fernandes’ addition during the January window was an absolute masterclass, though United are still looking a little light in that key area of the field.

Nemanja Matic has extended his contract by one year, though Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will know he’s not the long-term solution. Enter Thomas Partey.

The Ghanaian put in an absolute masterclass against Liverpool in the Champions League last week, so no doubt interest in him has grown. Apparently, Partey is being monitored by United and Arsenal.

Goal also adds that Partey’s current club, Atletico Madrid, are working on extending the star’s contract and release clause due to United’s keenness.

As things stand right now, Partey’s current terms include a £47m buyout clause, though with a new deal, Atletico are hoping to up that to a huge £93m – which is almost double.

Goal does state that the terms are yet to be put to Partey, though with the season being pushed back, there is still ample time for Atletico to hash out terms with their key midfielder.

In terms of what he’d bring to Old Trafford, Partey would be unbelievable. He’s the perfect holding-midfielder in the modern-day game, while having him in rotation with Scott McTominay would give Solskjaer incredible depth to work with.

If United can sneak in and complete a deal for £47m, it’d be an absolute steal. I’m not sure he’s worth buying if that new release clause comes into effect, mind…
