It is not new that the arrival of a personality be it coach or player or even the change in club owners could increase the chances of a team winning trophies. And the same can be said of Manchester United. The re-signing of Paul Pogba from Italian side Juventus in a world-record fee of £89million pounds made United a serious title contender.
Another disappointing season saw United finish in 5th place, with an FA Cup win proving scant consolation for the club once feared above all others across the world. With Louis van Gaal gone, the task of restoring United’s place in the proverbial Parthenon of football now falls firmly on the “Special One” Jose Mourinho.
Louis Van Gaal will have to wait until after the European Super Cup if he waits to sign Pedro from Barcelona reports the Mirror.
The Super Cup will be played on the 11th August which will be too soon for Barcelona forwards Messi and Neymar who have been given an extended break after the Copa America. Barcelona are accepted to the fact that Pedro will leave but will not sell him to United until after the Super Cup Final.
Pedro, 28, will play for Barcelona against Sevilla which will mean he will miss United’s opening Premier League game against Tottenham. United are still in need of attacking options and LVG see’s Pedro as someone who can adapted and adhere to his ‘philosophy’ and with a release clause of just £22million is the ideal replacement for the outgoing Di Maria.

If United can’t sign Pedro until after the Super Cup should they target another signing instead?
Manchester United boss Louis Van Gaal has had a change of heart regarding Javier Hernandez’s future at Old Trafford after admitting that he will now give the Mexican a chance to prove himself after the departure of Van Persie.
Manchester United continue to be linked with a number of strikers this summer as they aim to replace the departed Robin Van Persie and Radamel Falcao. PSG’s Edinson Cavani seems to be the most likely target for Louis Van Gaal according to reports but Sky Sports are reporting that Bayern Munich’s Robert Lewanowski is also a target for United.
Angel Di Maria has been given a 50/50 chance of leaving Manchester United this summer. The Argentine winger made a great start to life at Old Trafford, but that slowed up after the turn of the year.
Louis Van Gaal is set to sanction a £60million move for Bayern Munich forward Thomas Muller as a replacement for the outgoing Robin Van Persie.
The David De Gea transfer saga has been raging on for some time. Manchester United have offered De Gea a fantastic contract, and there is only one reason as to why he has not agreed a new deal. De Gea must be waiting to see if United mathematically qualify for the Champions League.
Firstly, it must be said that last night was an absolute cracker of an evening. I could feel the electricity of Old Trafford all the way in my lounge here in South Africa, over 14 000km’s away.
