Axel Tuanzebe could be given his first minutes of the season against Leicester: report

Manchester United’s squad is feeling the serious effects of injury at the moment – particularly defensively.

So-much-so that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has a real dilemma on his hands. The Baby Faced Assassin lost Aaron Wan-Bissaka over the international break due to a back injury, while Luke Shaw is nursing a hamstring problem.

Diogo Dalot could still be missing, and rather than risking the young Portuguese, the Manchester Evening News state that 21-year-old United defender Axel Tuanzebe ‘could be given his first minutes of the season’ against Leicester City this Saturday.

After an excellent end to last term with Aston Villa, followed up with an impeccable pre-season tour with United, it’s only right that Tuanzebe gets his chance.

Right now, he’s the third-choice centre-back at Old Trafford, while he is versatile and could play on the right if Solskjaer needs him.

Personally, though, I wouldn’t waste him out there. Instead, I’d utilise him in his proper position. If that means saving him for the midweek Europa League game then fine, but I wouldn’t rush him into the team to play him somewhat out of position.

I am excited by the fact that Solskjaer clearly has faith in Tuanzebe, though. For me, he’s better than Victor Lindelof and it’s only a matter of time before the Englishman usurps his Swedish counterpart from the starting line-up on a regular basis.
