Earlier in the week, we covered a story from the Daily Mail which claimed that Aston Villa were trying to sign Axel Tuanzebe on a permanent basis.
Well it seems as though the centre-half has other plans, as according to the Manchester Evening News, the talented 21-year-old is ‘determined’ to force his way into Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s squad next season.
Apparently a source close to Tuanzebe says that there has been ‘no movement’ on his future as he wants to impress the Baby Faced Assassin during pre-season.
The article also states that the 21-year-old is ‘expected’ to head on pre-season tour with the United squad next month – and any decision on his future will likely be made upon their return to the European leg of pre-season on July 25th.
United need a centre-half, Tuanzebe has proven his worth for Aston Villa. If the young man can have a good tour and impress United’s manager then I don’t see any reason why he cannot at least earn himself a spot in the squad as a rotational option.
I’d much prefer to see minutes given to Tuanzebe rather than an injury-prone Phil Jones or a struggling Marcos Rojo. At least with the 21-year-old you’d be building towards the future instead of hanging on to a pair of players who have had opportunities galore.
Hopefully, Tuanzebe has a positive, injury-free tour and he at least gives Solskjaer something to think about.
