No doubt that behind the scenes, Manchester United will be gearing themselves up for yet another busy transfer window. Jose Mourinho proved that he is willing to spend big money last time around, and I fully expect the same again as he looks to mould the squad.
One area of the field that may need some work is the final third. At times, our chance creation has been at a premium, and Guillem Balague of Sky Sports believes that United are frontrunners to sign one of the best in the business when it comes to playing just in behind the striker.
The Spanish football expert was asked about what he thinks of the James Rodriguez situation, and he explained that United are in pole position, should he wish to leave the Santiago Bernabeu.
“James is wanted by many teams in Europe, and for me Manchester United are the favourites to get him.” Balague told Sky Sports readers in his column.
When it comes to Real Madrid knowledge, Balague is spot on more often than not. This is a signing that would excite me greatly if it happened.
Rodriguez has found game time hard to come by out in Spain, and moving on may well be in his best interests if he wants to play regularly.
He wouldn’t come cheap, however, with Madrid wanting to recoup as much money as possible from the colossal transfer fee they paid to land him a few years ago.
I guess the only other factor worth considering is the point that he would want to be playing Champions League football. Right now, we’re 50/50 as to whether we can offer that for next campaign, so don’t be surprised if he doesn’t make his mind up until that is all sorted out.
