Manchester United have agreed a fee of about £9.8million with Real Sociedad to sell Adnan Januzaj, according to the BBC. The 22-year-old had been told to find another club by Jose Mourinho, and it looks as though the lucky buyers come from Spain.
This is a player who burst onto the scene under David Moyes close to four years ago now, scoring two stunning goals on debut and taking the Premier League by storm for the remainder of that season.
However, he’s been on a steady downward spiral since, and after a couple of failed loan moves to Borussia Dortmund and Sunderland, it always looked as though the writing was on the wall for the man from Belgium.
Ever since he got that #11 jersey, we had to watch disappointing performances from him. Perhaps the pressure became too much for the young man, and then he eventually lost his place in the side.
That doesn’t take away from what a brilliantly talented individual he is, however, and I’m pretty confident that sooner or later he will rediscover that scintillating ability that he clearly has.
For me, a move away is the correct decision, but I wouldn’t be wholly against seeing a buyback clause inserted into his contract…
