It comes as no real secret that Manchester United are intent on signing a new striker during this transfer window, particularly when you consider that Zlatan Ibrahimovic hasn’t been offered a new contract – and his 28-goals haul from last season needs replacing.
One man the club have looked at is Real Madrid’s Alvaro Morata. However, the 24-year-old has now attracted interest from fellow Premier League side, Chelsea. According to the Daily Mirror, the Spaniard could snub a move to Old Trafford in favour of linking up with Antonio Conte at Stamford Bridge…
The forward looks set to leave the Santiago Bernabeu, with United frontrunners until Chelsea have shown an interest. We have to remember that Conte was the first manager to really give the forward a chance – during their time together at Juventus.
This must be a real concern of Jose Mourinho’s because it is a tough call for the player if Chelsea’s interest is genuine and they are willing to match our bid. He can choose the current Premier League champions, or the EFL Cup and Europa League winners. In terms of global stature, United have the edge in that regard, but I guess now it comes down to who Morata prefers.
I think he’d be perfect for Manchester United, and I’d be absolutely delighted if we signed him. However, things have just gotten interesting. I just hope that we can get this deal over the line.
