Manchester United’s Anthony Martial has been named the Player of the Month for September, per the official website. The French attacker, 21, picked up 41% of the vote, with Romelu Lukaku and Marouane Fellaini finishing second and third, securing 31% and 20% of the vote respectively.
Martial hasn’t started every week, but to his credit, the former AS Monaco man has kept working hard and taken his opportunities whenever one has been presented to him.
He made six appearances throughout September, although he only played 287 minutes. Martial scored three goals, picked up four assists and also claimed two Man of the Match awards.
Going forward, he’s definitely given Jose Mourinho something to think about regarding selection. This is a player who is grasping every chance with both hands, and there is only so long that Martial will remain a substitute. His directness, sheer pace and on-ball brilliance is an asset to any team in world football.
We’ve got some huge fixtures coming up after the international break, and I wouldn’t be wholly surprised if we see a lot more of Martial over the next few weeks. I think he deserves his chance and it’d take a brave man to bet against him to succeed.
