Big-spending Wolves closing in on £25million deal for Man United defender: report

Wolverhampton Wanderers are closing in on a huge £25million deal to sign Manchester United centre-back Marcos Rojo this summer.

That’s according to the Daily Telegraph, who say that Jose Mourinho is looking to clear the decks in anticipation of completing a deal for Leicester City’s Harry Maguire.

Apparently, the self-proclaimed Special One has been told he’ll need to offload a defender before signing one, with the Argentine’s head on the chopping block; despite only recently putting pen to paper on a new three-year contract at Old Trafford.

In terms of business, it makes good sense to shift Rojo on for hefty profit. He’s not really the required quality to be a regular starter for United, but he has had his uses as a squad player. The cruciate ligament injury he suffered in April 2017 has absolutely killed all the momentum he had, because at that time, he was forming an excellent partnership with Eric Bailly.

If you offered me the chance to sign Maguire while selling Rojo at a profit, it’s definitely worth considering, but Claude Puel seems pretty intent on keeping ahold of the one they call ‘Slab Head’. How about Wolves, too? They’re certainly not messing around…
