Manchester united have had a week to forget. To go from the highs of beating Paris Saint-Germain to the lows of losing to both Arsenal and Wolves.
In the FA Cup game against Nuno Espirito Santo’s men, there were some poor individual performances. One of those came from Anthony Martial. Now, the Frenchman may have his excuse…
According to The Mirror, the former AS Monaco man has withdrawn from international duty due to a knee injury.
Apparently, after the game, Martial felt pains in his knee and after discussions with United and France, the decision taken was to withdraw him – presumably so he doesn’t further damage the area.
Hindsight is a wonderful thing, but Martial did not look fit. At all. It felt as though he’d been rushed back in Romelu Lukaku’s absence – and he put in a performance that suggested he wasn’t anything close to 100% ready to go.
It’s a shame because Martial was beginning to kick it up a notch just before he got injured – and we all know how deadly he can be when in full flow.
Hopefully, it’s a precaution more than anything, because if we’re losing him for any prolonged period of time, that deals us a massive blow in terms of our Premier League and Champions League hopes.
