AS Monaco’s Fabinho will not be leaving the club this summer, according to L’Equipe via Caught Offside. Apparently, the Ligue 1 champions have ruled out the sale of the 23-year-old Brazilian, meaning Manchester United will have to look elsewhere.
The midfielder, who can also play as a right-back has been heavily linked with a Manchester United move this summer, and no doubt this news will be a blow.
In my opinion, the Red Devils desperately need to bring in a new defensive-minded midfielder this summer in order to toughen up at the back and offer that extra protection to the defence as a whole.
Fabinho would have done that, whilst also offering us an option as cover at right-back, when Antonio Valencia is either injured or needs a rest.
Now, Mourinho will be conveying the market and looking at other names. Perhaps a move for Nemanja Matic may be in the offing, but it won’t be easy to prise him from Premier League rivals, Chelsea.
The tour has already begun now, and although the gaffer would have wanted all of his transfer business complete, it looks as though things will drag on for a little while yet – and it’ll certainly be interesting to see who we end up signing.
