Brandon Williams signs new Man United contract until 2024

Well it was unexpected really, but Brandon Williams has signed a new Manchester United contract, keeping him at the club until 2024.

The Red Devils confirmed the news on their website today, with United having the option to extend his deal by a further twelve months if they so choose.

This season, Williams’ rise to stardom has come out of nowhere. The full-back came into the time on the back of a Luke Shaw injury, and took his chance with aplomb.

He’s gone on to make 33 appearances, scoring one goal in the process. Williams hasn’t looked out of place in that United XI, with his calmness on the ball his best asset.

Today, he posed all-smiles as he put pen to paper, sporting the remnants of a black eye which the swelling has now gone down on.

A new Brandon Williams contract just means his future is now sorted. The left-back no longer has to worry about what’s happening off the field, allowing him to focus on impressing on it.

Where will he fit in next season?

He has to do exactly what he’s been doing. First and foremost, it’s about his development as a player. I love Luke Shaw, but he’s always picking up injuries and that isn’t going to change, so Williams will definitely play matches.

Expect him to consistently hit that 30+ appearances a season mark over the next few years, that’s for sure. No doubt he’ll also feature heavily in the Europa League before this season is out, too.

Don’t forget Williams is naturally right-footed and can play on that side if needed. When you couple that with an out-of-favour Diogo Dalot and things are looking bright for Williams.

It’s always nice to see homegrown talent flourishing at the highest level and long may that continue.

Congratulations, Brandon! Richly deserved.
