Manchester United’s Anthony Martial has rejected the opportunity to leave the Theatre of Dreams this summer, according to Italian journalist Tancredi Palmeri, translated by the Manchester Evening News.
Apparently, both Tottenham Hotspur and Inter Milan were keen on luring the 21-year-old to their respective clubs this summer, but both deals have been rejected.
Palmeri reportedly writes that Martial wants to stay in the Premier League, so a move to Italy was immediately off the cards, whereas there is probably no chance that Jose Mourinho will be prepared to sell such a brilliantly talented individual to a fellow title rival.
Martial was left out of Mourinho’s starting line-up for the opening game against West Ham United at the weekend, but my, the Frenchman made a stunning impact from off of the bench.
Within minutes, Martial had the ball in the back of the net after an excellent pass from Henrikh Mkhitaryan. Then he turned provider, sliding Paul Pogba into an advanced position, before the midfielder smartly fired past Joe Hart in the opposing goal.
That little cameo sends out a real message to the gaffer, in what was a strong statement of intent. Martial is here to stay, and he’s doing all he can to work his way back into proceedings.
