Manchester United’s summer transfer window has gotten off to somewhat of a slow start, with a lot of rumours flying around – not many of which wit any real substance. However, the Manchester Evening News could have just offered us a huge update.
Their brilliant writer Samuel Luckhurst is claiming that Chelsea’s powerhouse midfielder, Nemanja Matic, wants a reunion with Jose Mourinho at Manchester United this summer; despite the fact that he won the Premier League at Stamford Bridge just a fortnight ago.
The 28-year-old had another excellent season in midfield, particularly on the defensive side of the ball. When he’s on song, opposing playmakers just cannot get past him.
This is exactly the type of player that Manchester United have been crying out for. Marouane Fellaini had been tasked to do that job at times this year, but he’s just not of sufficient quality to protect the back four for a full season.
Matic would become our Mr. Reliable in that area of the pitch. The Serbian was signed by Jose for Chelsea in the middle of Mourinho’s first season back at the Bridge. Eighteen months later, the pair were celebrating a Premier League title together.
Their relationship is clear for all to see and it’s pretty obvious that our manager trusts Matic to do a job. I think the proof is in the pudding, they’ve won trophies both together and apart and the 6’4 midfielder seems like a great fit.
