Bruno Fernandes, Manchester United captain. That has a lovely ring to it, doesn’t it? It seems as though our Portuguese Magnifico was delighted with the honour he was given, too…
With Harry Maguire out injured, many questioned who’d be donning the armband. Fernandes was actually told he’d be wearing it during a pre-match press conference he attended while sitting alongside the gaffer.
Well, he certainly led by example last night, scoring United’s opening goal while continuing to remain a constant thorn in Paris Saint-Germain’s side.
What we all love most about Bruno is that he’s a win-at-all-costs player. For my money, that’s the single-best trait any captain can have, which is why in the long-term, this should be an avenue that Manchester United and Solskjaer have to explore.
If you couldn’t love Bruno Fernandes enough, the attacking-midfielder brilliantly reacted to being given the captain’s armband for the first time on his Instagram page, further endearing himself to fans.
The wording of his post was just superb. He understands what an honour it was for him to wear that armband with pride – and it’s something which Fernandes fully deserved.
In the event that Maguire misses future games, it looks as though Solskjaer trusts Fernandes to be the next man up in that regard. As a pair, they’re very different in terms of on-field personalities. Hopefully, they can work well together and in doing so, we’ll continue to enjoy success on the field.
For Fernandes, it’s about continuing to be vocal, continuing to play at a supremely-high level and continuing to improve.
Congratulations again to Fernandes, who certainly did that armband supremely proud last night. I don’t doubt that it was the first of many times he’ll be bestowed with that great honour.
