Bruno Fernandes due in Manchester early next week after significant progress made: report

Ah, if you’re not already sick of the name Bruno Fernandes (we are), you will be by the end of this transfer window…

The Portuguese midfielder was heavily linked with United over the summer, though the deal never came to fruition. However, the stories are back during this January transfer period – and the Portuguese media are as exaggerated as ever…

Anyway, today’s latest in the brewing saga comes from Correio da Manha’s Sunday print edition, translated by Sport Witness.

They’re claiming that the 25-year-old is due in Manchester ‘next week’ after ‘significant progress’ was made in negotiations between the Red Devils and Sporting Lisbon.

Timing-wise, I have my doubts as last night Fernandes certainly didn’t look like a man who is on his way out of Lisbon. He scored twice in the game and there was no sign of any goodbyes or anything of that nature.

Look, we all know United need a new midfielder, but this was the case in the summer and Fernandes was definitely available six months ago. If United wanted him, why didn’t they make the move then?

As SW say, Correio da Manha earned themselves a ‘sensationalist’ reputation during the summer and seemingly that hasn’t changed. For now, I’d take this one with a pinch of salt…
