Bruno Fernandes is the name on all the back pages today, as the Red Devils seemingly look to bolster their midfield amid injury crisis.

Well now we’ve been given the clearest indication that the Portuguese himself would like the move to happen. According to The Telegraph, the 25-year-old has told his current club that he would like to move to Man United this month – if a deal can be struck between the two clubs.

On Friday morning, talks were held between Edward Woodward, Matt Judge (United’s Head of Corporate Development) and Sporting president Frederico Varandas in London.

Varandas has since returned to Portugal, remaining hopeful that an agreement can be reached.

Right now though, the valuations seem some way apart. Sporting initially want £68.5m (€80m) to let Fernandes leave, while United value the player at somewhere around the £50m mark.

Fernandes has scored a mightily impressive 67 goals in 133 appearances for the Portuguese outfit though now it feels as though he’s ready to try his hand somewhere new.

United’s midfield needs help. Fernandes would be an astute addition to a squad that’s lacking in both quality and quantity. Pushing January deals over the line are always tough but in the end, perhaps Sporting will lower their demands. This one will go right down to the wire, though. Make no mistake about that…
