Carragher urges Man United to move on from Paul Pogba

pogba hates deeper role at man united

Manchester United have been urged to sell Paul Pogba and head in a different direction, by Jamie Carragher.

After making the move to Old Trafford in an £89million back in 2016, Manchester United fans everywhere rejoiced. Paul Pogba was returning ‘home’ and he was about to single-handedly change the Red Devils’ future.

Fast-forward four years and United are still inconsistent. I can count Pogba’s world-class games on one-hand. He hasn’t been that transcendent, generational talent that we all expected.

Sure, injuries haven’t helped, neither did a fall-out with ex-manager Jose Mourinho. The one thing I cannot forgive is his constant flirting with Real Madrid. It’s unacceptable that he’d blatantly disrespect the club he currently plays for, particularly when, judging by recent performances, there’s no guarantee that they’d even want to sign him.

Anyway, Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher has urged United to sell the £290k-a-week star (Goal) and look in a different direction. Quite frankly, his assessment of Pogba is absolutely damning. What’s even worse is that I actually find myself agreeing with a scouser!

Check out what Carragher had to say here:

He’s possibly never done well in any position or tactical set up that different managers have had,” Carragher told talkSPORT.

“Would I pick him in the Manchester United team? No, I wouldn’t. He’s a huge name, he’s come for a huge transfer fee, but I don’t think he’s a great player.

“People say he’s won the World Cup and I get that. But when he came in I thought he might have the impact like Lampard at Chelsea, Gerrard at Liverpool, Yaya Toure at Man City – those players drove their team to titles, European Cups.

“When you’re that man who’s seen as the one to take United to the next level, which people might say it’s too much pressure to put on one man, but that’s what we were told was coming.

“It just hasn’t happened for him at Manchester United. For me, I’d be looking to move him on.”

At this point, Pogba is becoming more of a hindrance than a help. The distractions, the off-field antics outweigh the performances. That has left Ole Gunnar Solskjaer with no choice but to bench the Frenchman in recent weeks.

Sure, I don’t doubt that Pogba will move elsewhere and play better. That’s just in his nature, he’ll be looking to prove United wrong. However, he hasn’t done it here at Old Trafford, with ex-coach Rene Meulensteen amongst those unimpressed. We shouldn’t care about anyone but ourselves.

Right now, I’d have him fifth in the midfield pecking order behind the usual starting three of Bruno Fernandes, Fred and Scott McTominay. I’d also give Donny van de Beek the edge. Is that really what you’d expect from such a high-earner? From your most expensive ever signing? Probably not. It’s time to move on.
