Five things we learned: United’s 1-1 draw with Stoke City

1. Radamel Falcao has something to offer

El Tigre put in a superb performance today, and was somewhat unfortunate to be substituted midway through the second half. The Columbian took his goal excellently and grew into the game as it went on, maybe Van Gaal was protecting him from tiredness after a lengthy injury layoff.

Five things we learned: Manchester United 3-1 Newcastle United

1. United’s front line is deadly

Robin van Persie, Radamel Falcao and Wayne Rooney are clinical. United don’t create as many chances as we’d like, but these lads seem to take pretty much every decent chance they get and its brilliant to see.

2. Ashley Young still offers something

Ashley Young has stepped it up in recent weeks and his crossing has proven to be a real threat, especially with Radamel Falcao’s presence in the air. His defensive duties have certainly improved too, and there is no doubt that Young still has something to offer Manchester United.

3. Juan Mata is better at home

We’ve noticed this in recent weeks, but Juan Mata seems to play an awful lot better when United are at home and on the front foot rather than playing on the counter. Yesterday he thrived in the #10 spot, and some of the passes he played were absolutely sublime.

4. Wayne Rooney can play anywhere

Wayne Rooney once again showed his versatility by playing from midfield. He reminded me of the old Paul Scholes who used to bomb forward at the perfect times, and Rooney certainly did that to perfection. He was more than deserving of his two goals, plus he added a superb assist.

5. Radamel Falcao can offer United something

El Tigre deserved a goal for his work rates alone yesterday. The Columbian unselfishly squared it to Wayne Rooney for his first, before putting in a perfectly timed slide tackle to set United on their way for their second. Despite not scoring, Falcao was one of the best players on the park.

1. Even Louis van Gaal makes mistakes

Manchester United’s setup could’ve cost them a couple of points today, and thats down to Louis van Gaal. The Dutchman started with Darren Fletcher who played poorly, and the three at the back didn’t help matters either.
